BARKLY Regional Council (BRC) has appointed a Project Manager to establish the Tennant Creek Youth Centre.
Brody Moore has a wealth of experience setting up youth facilities and will lead a team of dedicated staff to open the Centre in the coming weeks.
Keys to the Centre were officially handed over from local contracting company Remote Concrete NT to BRC last week.
With support from the Australian Government, NT Government and Territory Families, Housing and Community (TFHC), Council will employ a Centre Manager and three Indigenous Youth Sports Officers to run operations.
The Building Better Regions Fund funded construction of the Tennant Creek Youth Centre, which is a key initiative of the Barkly Regional Deal.
The project has been a collaboration of the three tiers of government, with input from the Australian Government, NT Government Departments of Chief Minister and Cabinet and Territory Families, Housing and Communities, Barkly Regional Council, Barkly Backbone team and Barkly Regional Alliance.
Officers from the Departments of the Chief Minister and Cabinet and Territory Families, Housing and Communities together with the Australian Government will continue supporting BRC to get the Centre operational including forming a working group to support the Project Manager to engage with youth and broader community, and coordinate with other youth service providers and volunteers. The Youthlinx program will operate from the Centre once it’s operational.
BRC Community Development Director Gillian Molloy welcomed Brody to the team. “It’s very exciting to secure Brody to work on this special project with us,” she said.
“He has previous experience opening a youth centre in Queensland, and with the partnership of the three levels of government working together, we are now focused on opening the facility as soon as possible to make the Barkly a better place for our youth.”
