A music workshop and concert held on 24 April in Engawala was a joint initiative between Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) Youth Sport and Recreation Program, Sharp Film Productions and Alcoota School.
Over 150 people from communities throughout the Central Desert, Barkly and Tanami Regions attended.
Bunna Lawrie and his son Jason Lee Scott - key members of Coloured Stone - were instrumental in the workshop and concert as was Kutcha Edwards. Black Boy was sung loud and proud backed up by members of MB Reggae and Newboys.
Coloured Stone were joined by Mulga Bore Hard Rock, Kutcha Edwards, New Boys, and Mulga Bore Reggae in a jam session to finish off the night.
The Workshop and Concert were also supported by Mulga Bore School, Waltja, Rainbow Gateway, and Songlines from Melbourne.
“We are looking to have another workshop and concert later this year, in the first two weeks in November,” said Stephen Royes, Team Leader, Youth & Community Safety, Engawala.
“We are all very excited to bring ongoing opportunities for the young people of the central desert region,” said Rebecca McLean, Producer/Writer/Director at Sharp Film Productions.
