Council praises outgoing Acting CEO
Acting CEO Russell Anderson resigned from Council this week, serving his last day today. Acting Mayor Greg Marlow said he was surprised by Mr Anderson’s announcement, however completelyunderstands his circumstances. The Acting Mayor has nothing but praise for the local government veteran. “In the seven months since Mr Anderson’s appointment, he has done an excellent job of stabilising Council,rebuilding staff levels and reestablishing remote services to the bush,” he said. Project Manager appointed to establish Youth Centre
BARKLY Regional Council (BRC) has appointed a Project Manager to establish the Tennant Creek Youth Centre. Brody Moore has a wealth of experience setting up youth facilities and will lead a team of dedicated staff to open the Centre in the coming weeks. Keys to the Centre were officially handed over from local contracting company Remote Concrete NT to BRC last week. With support from the Australian Government, NT Government and Territory Families, Housing and Community (TFHC), Council will employ a Centre Manager and three Indigenous Youth Sports Officers to run operations. Ratepayers take up invitation to meet with specialist team
Around 20 residents have taken up Barkly Regional Council’s invitation to meet with its specialist Rates Team to bring their accounts up to date. Many of the issues surrounding the confusion were due to clerical errors stemming from out-of-date receipting processes from June 2022-January 2023, where rates payments were not recorded correctly. But now after centralising the Rates Team in Tennant Creek from Darwin, progress has been made to rectify procedures including the move to new receipting software Councilwise. Swimming Pool reopening update
Due to an equipment malfunction, the re-opening of the Tennant Creek Swimming Pool will be delayedby up to two weeks.While a new pump for the pool was successfully installed by local contractors, it was found the variable speeddrive (VSD) to the pump had suffered electrical damage and was inoperable, and the drive for the second pumpwas incompatible with the new model.Contractors are now working on installing a new VSD, as well as looking to see if the second pump can be startedto begin the process of treating the water.Mayor Jeffrey McLaughlin acknowledged the importance of community pools in bringing people…
Chief Minister and Mayor team up to save the Tennant Creek Show
The Labor Territory Government has teamed up with Barkly Regional Council Mayor Jeffrey McLaughlin to start an immediate working group to save the Tennant Creek Show. After news hit of the 2023 Show’s cancellation yesterday evening, Chief Minister Natasha Fyles was alerted to the troubles behind the Tennant and Districts Show Society Committee’s decision. The working group met today to develop a fast-action plan to ensure the Show goes ahead.
